Vikram (name changed), a 45-year-old man from Pune, presented to Artemis Hospital with persistent upper abdominal pain, bloating, and nausea following a recent episode of acute pancreatitis. Imaging studies revealed a large pancreatic pseudocyst measuring over 8 cm, which posed a risk of infection and rupture if left untreated. He was anxious about the prospect of major surgery, prompting the gastroenterology team to explore minimally invasive options.

Vikram’s condition was carefully evaluated, and the team decided on endoscopic ultrasound-guided drainageβ€”a procedure that allows fluid to be drained safely into the stomach without open surgery. Under sedation, a stent was precisely placed to facilitate continuous drainage of the pseudocyst.

The procedure was completed successfully, and Vikram’s symptoms improved almost immediately. He was monitored in the hospital for several days, during which his vital signs and laboratory parameters remained stable. Follow-up imaging confirmed that the pseudocyst had completely resolved.

Vikram was discharged within a week, with dietary guidance, follow-up schedules, and lifestyle advice to prevent recurrence. At subsequent follow-ups, he remained symptom-free and fully active.

This case highlights the advantages of advanced minimally invasive procedures in managing pancreatic conditions. With timely intervention and expert endoscopic care, even large pseudocysts can be treated safely without the risks associated with open surgery, allowing patients to recover faster and resume normal life.
