Dr. Amit Kumar Chaurasia

Brief Profile:

Dr. Amit Kumar Chaurasia is an Alumni of three of the best Institutes in India. He graduated from JIPMER (Pondicherry), did his MD in Internal Medicine from AIIMS (New Delhi), and DM (Cardiology) from SCTIMST (Trivandrum). Subsequently, he did his Fellowship in Complex coronary and Structural Heart Disease from GOKI, Budapest (Hungary), where he worked for about three years.

Dr. Chaurasia is a dedicated interventional cardiologist with vast experience in Adult, Paediatric, and Peripheral interventions. He is nationally and internationally recognized for his work in the field of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation/Replacement (TAVI/TAVR). He is one of the first proctors for TAVI in India. He has to his credit one of the highest numbers of TAVI/TAVR procedures in India (more than 1000). He has also performed Transcatheter Pulmonary Valve Replacement (TPVR) in the smallest conduit in India. He also performs Transcatheter mitral Valve Replacements (TMVR) and has a special interest in BMV and Mitra-clip as well. He also has more than 50 left atrial appendage closures to his credit. He has been course director, course co-director, and faculty for many national and international conferences and has helped train many doctors in these procedures in India and Abroad.

Apart from TAVI, he is an expert in complex coronary interventions like Left main intervention, chronic total occlusion (CTO), and other complex procedures and regularly conducts workshops at various places. He has performed more than 10,000 cardiac procedures to date. He also performs ASD, VSD, PDA, pulmonary AV fistula device closures. He has a special interest in performing carotid and aortoiliac interventions, including intervention for aortic aneurysm and dissections (TEVAR and EVAR). He also has a good experience in advanced catheter based treatment of hypertension (Renal artery denervation).

Research Experience

• MD thesis : Endothelial Dysfunction in Rheumatoid arthritis. Research duration 3 years, from 07/2005 to 01/2008. This research was presented in EULAR conference Barcelona (Oral presentation) and the abstract was published in Annals of rheumatic disease 2007.

• DM thesis : Follow up of patients post balloon mitral valvotomy and assessment of factors leading to restenosis. Research duration 2 years. • During my Interventional Cardiology fellowship, he was involved in a number of other projects like hemodynamics of aortic stenosis in patient undergoing TAVI, hemodynamics in patients with low flow gradient aortic stenosis, developing frailty score for patients undergoing TAVI, left main PCI studies etc. Some have been published while we are working on the others.
